Overview
Sand filters trap suspended solids and turbidity. Activated carbon filters then remove chlorine, odour, colour and organic compounds. Together they protect RO membranes and the equipment downstream.
The filters are piped in series, usually after a reaction tank and before the RO plant, and are backwashed regularly to restore performance.
